The Sergei Yesenin Museum in Moscow opened in 1995, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth. The literary and memorial exposition of the museum in Bolshoi Strochenovsky Lane was created by a group of professional enthusiasts on a voluntary basis and presented to the city with a huge gathering of people. This house in Zamoskvorechye is the only official address of S.A. Yesenin in Moscow, where his father lived for about 30 years and the only place where the poet from 1911 to 1918 not only lived, but was also registered.
The status of the state museum received in April 1996. On a small exposition area (about 70 m2) of the recreated memorial building, various creative activities of the museum began, as well as the implementation of a large number of non-museum projects.
With the help of an unusual artistic solution, the museum’s exposition created an atmosphere in which poetry was born. The emphasis in the museum is on the Moscow period of the life and work of Sergei Yesenin, as well as the entire creative path of the poet. The exposition ends with the theme ‘Yesenin as a part of world culture’, where the poet’s work is presented along with the work of outstanding figures of world culture.
In the literary and memorial part of the exposition, one can see personal belongings of Sergei Yesenin, manuscripts and lifetime publications, rare documents, photographs of the poet and his entourage.
