The Yesenin Museum of Moscow, together with the Linguistics and Translation department of the Foreign Languages Institute of the Moscow City Pedagogical University, are conducting a contest of artistic translations of Sergei Yesenin’s poetry into English.
Participants need to complete a translation of one of the following poems by Yesenin into English:
Imitating song
There, where mystery eternally sleeps…
Soul sadly dreams for the skies…
I don’t regret, I don’t call, I don’t cry
I have but one amusement left
Only translations that have not previously been published anywhere will be accepted for participation in the contest.
Submissions will be accepted from March 28th to May 8th, 2016.
The winners of the contest will take part in the award ceremony and receive prizes from the Moscow Yesenin Museum.
The winning work will be published on the Museum’s website.
Judging committee:
John Ellis Bowlt — American art historian, author, and editor specializing in art and design, including stage design, of the Russian/Soviet avant garde movement of 1900-1930. He is a professor at the University of Southern California and directs its Institute of Modern Russian Culture.
Ratish Naeer — honorary consul of the Russian federation, Pushkin medal laureate, director of the Russian Cultural Center in Trivandrum, Kerala, India.
Max Thompson — MA, University of Arkansas, PhD student at the Gorky Literary Institute (Artistic Translation Department)
Chase Philpot — BA, Dickinson College
Eugenia Yevlenteva — founder of LingvoCoach, translator, linguistic trainer
Ilya Baykin — science journalist, English-language interface translator and project localizer at Yandex.
